Weezer - Ranked!
2025-03-25
I've been a Weezer fan since I was 13 in 8th grade.
I was really into Tally Hall, which was the first rock band
I got into that had real people as the singers.
(Before I ONLY listened to VOCALOID and video game soundtracks).
I showed Tally Hall to my parents (lol), and they said it sounded a lot like Weezer.
That band really does sound like Weezer! Especially their song greener. (one time I tried to trick my sister that it was an unreleased Weezer song... no, it didn't work, because she has heard every Weezer song in existence.)
My dad showed me Buddy Holly and their cover of Africa. I was sooo obsessed.
(Oh yeah, my parents did also tell me Tally Hall looked/sounded like the Beatles, and they showed me "I Am the Walrus," but I wasn't ready for The Beatles at that time... that chapter comes later.)
I remember feeling so cool and grown-up to be a 13 year old listening to 90s music. lolz
I was the one who showed Weezer to my sister. My sister is now a HUGE Weezer fan. A bigger fan than I am. One time, she stayed up all
night just to hear the whole entire Weezer discography,
in order, without any breaks. That's how much she
loves Weezer. And it was ME who introduced it to her...
Well, we were really into the Blue Album, and we also thought the album cover looked really funny.
That's probably because it was a meme at the time (still is probably) to make edits of that album cover.
I also thought the little blue shirt guy on the cover looked silly (Rivers Cuomo).
So I screenshotted him and reduced the size a lot to make the Discord emoji titled :unknown:
I also liked Brian. When I actually started learning about the band's lore, Brian was my favorite until I was 15. My favorite is now Rivers because I find him most relatable. Watch interviews of him from the 90s, he is SO MUCH LIKE ME.
I think the Blue Album was actually the first album I listened to
in full, without skipping. I was in a very terrible place mentally during that time and Weezer really did help me through it.
I wouldn’t say Blue Album is the album of my teenage years, that title goes to Pinkerton. It's definitely the album that got me through being a teen. (So far lol) (Besides The Black Parade, Revolver, Bullets, Three Cheers, oh man the list goes on) Sigh... Pinkerton. I love Pinkerton so much.
So this leads me into the intention of this post! Ranking every Weezer album (and the SZNS EPs) so far. From my least fav to my fav!
Let's go !!!
19. SZNS - Winter EP

Last place... Winter. The song I Want A Dog made me really... dislike this EP.
18. SZNS - Autumn EP

Nothing on this album caught my eye (or, well, ears) and I wasn't really into SZNS to begin with.
17. SZNS - Summer EP

It's decent, I liked the song Records. Still, I don't really care for SZNS.
16. OK Human

It's just not my style of music, I did like Aloo Gobi though. I also feel like some of the songs have stupid lyrics..
numbers is a good example of this. "Numbers are out to get you / they'll kill you
if they get you / numbers / oooh ooh!!" These lyrics are pretty bad...and "i
hear the sadness / in your laughter" is so cliche.
It's kinda crazy seeing how bad these lyrics are when some other Weezer song
lyrics are phenomenal (the "words and dreams and a million screams" bit in Across the Sea is AMAZING) Weezer is quite inconsistent.
15. SZNS - Spring EP

The track "A Little Bit of Love" is what made it higher than the rest. It's the only SZNS song that I've listened to a lot. It's cute and nice.
14. Teal

Nothing on this album is original, they didn’t even add any little personal spin to the covers. It's not great. But it's rated higher because Africa got me hooked on Weezer.
13. Black

I almost labelled this album as forgettable, but I realized the reason I
felt that way is because I never actually listened through the whole thing.
It's a bit too poppy for my tastes and it just doesn't feel like Weezer...
My sister and I describe it as "Make Believe but bad". It's poppy like make believe,
but it's just not as good. It's still fun and nice, but it's nothing that special.
I do really enjoy California Snow!
12. Van Weezer

The song Hero is good.
11. Hurley

It's quite forgettable but still a nice album. All My Friends are Insects is very silly and nice and Where's My Sex? Is funny. It's about socks btw, not sex.
10. Raditude

sigh The notorious "worst Weezer album" is in my top 10... listen,
it's not that bad. I really reallly like if you're wondering if I
want you to (I want you to). You gotta give it, like, a third listen,
and it'll grow on you. They're GOOD songs. It's just...some decisions that were made messed up the tone of the album.
The rap in cant stop partying is just not weezer at all. It's not bad, it's just not weezer. Otherwise, Raditude is fun and not horrible.
9. Pacific Daydream

Mexican Fender is mostly why this is higher than the others.
8. EWBAITE

Pretty solid album. Not much else to say about it. It's a concept album too, which I don't really know what it's about but my sister has told me marcbutevil has a great video on it!
7. Make Believe

It's good. I like Perfect Situation and Beverly Hills. I used to really like we are all on drugs too. When I was 13 i thought the music video was funny for some reason.
6. Green

Green is short and sweet. It's very good and all the songs on it slap. I like photograph. And i wish rivers would give us official lyrics for hash pipe.
5. Red

A very fun album, I really like Troublemaker, Pork and Beans, and the greatest man that ever lived. I was really into Pork and Beans when I was 13.
4. Blue

Of course Blue is in my top 5. Basic, but it's really good. All of the songs are.
3. Maladroit

Absolutely gorgeous. I absolutely adore the songs on this album, especially Burndt Jamb and Dope Nose. And the music video for Keep Fishin is AWESOME!
The backing vocals in Dope Nose are so good. I think it's done by Brian Bell.
I love when rivers goes "cheese smells so good / on a burnt piece of lamb" and you can hear "piece of WHAT?" it's just so fun and awesome
2. White

BEAUTIFUL! Did you know the song California Kids is originally in Japanese? You gotta listen to Rivers Cuomo's side project, scott & rivers. He has a song called カリフォルニア(California) and it's the original version of California Kids. It's so cool. I also really adore L.A. Girlz. It reminds me of my trip to Santa Monica. We went to Venice Beach (the same beach the album cover photo was taken at!) And we were listening to this song while we were at Tower 28. "Sweeten up your lemonade / and meet me down on tower 28"
1. Pinkerton

My favorite Weezer album of all time, and it's probably in my top 10 favorite albums ever of all time.
It's beautiful and it's painful. Like Rivers Cuomo put it,
“It’s a hideous record. … It was such a hugely painful
mistake that happened in front of hundreds of thousands of people and continues to happen on a grander and grander
scale and just won’t go away. It’s like getting really drunk at a party and spilling your guts in front of everyone
and feeling incredibly great and cathartic about it, and then waking up the next morning and realizing what a complete fool you made of yourself.”
And that's what makes Pinkerton beautiful.
It's honest and not in a pretty way.
I was gonna list my favorite tracks on it, but I realized all of the songs on it are so good they're unrankable.
