In Memory of Kurt Cobain

I went on a trip to Washington for my spring break, and I got the chance to visit Kurt Cobain's memorial. I've been wanting to visit this place ever since I knew it existed, and when I heard I would finally get the chance to see it, I was so happy. Our parents weren't going with us on the trip, so my sister and I flew alone. I was a bit worried at first, but it really wasn't that bad. The worst part was the TSA, because the guy there was rushing us, and I was so disoriented and confused! Otherwise, it was real easy to figure out. I spent my time primarily in Olympia with my grandma, and it was very fun! On Friday is when we got to see the memorial.

The memorial is located in Aberdeen. This is where Kurt Cobain grew up. It's also more specifically near the Young Street Bridge. Kurt spent a lot of time by that bridge in his youth, and it's what inspired Nirvana's Something In The Way.

The bridge is now covered in graffiti.

I usually really like graffiti. It's all over San Francisco, and I've seen a lot of cool pieces. Maybe one day I'll make a blog posts about the cool murals and messages I've seen there.

I also left flowers at his grave. I chose lillies because I heard those were his favorite. My sister left sunflowers because they're pretty and significant in the game Mother 3. I think Kurdt would like that game. (He really liked Super Mario World!)

I also left a painted rock. It's a remake of his self portrait. The writing says; "I don't know how to play and I don't give a hoot! Kurdt Kobain Rock star"

It's a real lovely place. I think every Nirvana fan should go see it if they can. This was actually on my bucket list, so I can cross that off now!

After leaving the memorial, my sister and I went to an Aberdeen Dollar Tree. I wanted to get strawberry Nesquik, because that was Kurt's favorite, but I couldn't find any sadly. I got Faygo instead. lol I have more pictures than this, I might edit this post later to add more. I love Kurt Cobain so much, he really was an amazing person. I have a million things I want to say but I just don't have the words for.

Punk is musical freedom. It's saying, doing and playing what you want. In Webster's terms, 'nirvana' means freedom from pain, suffering and the external world, and that's pretty close to my definition of Punk Rock.
